  • I accept the same problem…hither's my debug info:

    Notepad++ v7.5.9 (32-bit)
    Build fourth dimension : Oct xiv 2018 - fifteen:02:52
    Path : C:\Plan Files (x86)\Notepad++\notepad++.exe
    Admin mode : OFF
    Local Conf mode : OFF
    Bone : Windows 7 (64-bit)

    I run every bit a not-admin, only am prompted and provide correct admin account creds when NP++ asks for information technology. the xmltools.dll is placed in the plugins subfolder. The "How to install" popup says: Please install external DLLs into NPP root directory… I even tried that and did non work

  • welcome to the notepad++ community, @John-Travers

    aye, i can reproduce this perfectly on notepad++ 7.5.9 using the old "Plugin Manager".
    the maximum i can get is the same xml tools "how to install" pop upward window you see.

    you will need to upgrade to 7.6.3 to get the new "plugins admin" every bit the old "plugin manager" seems to produce this if yous attempt to install xml tools with it.

    beginning please upgrade your existing notepad++ to 7.half-dozen.3 with the 32 bit updater/installer from >>> here <<<.
    (annotation: y'all don't have to uninstall your electric current notepad++ seven.v.9, only run the npp.vii.6.3.Installer.exe and install it over your current version)

    after that outset notepad++.exe and open "plugins admin" as shown at this screenshot:
    of import: do not employ the old "plugin manager", as information technology will not put plugins to the correct locations of newer notepad versions 7.six.0 to 7.half dozen.3.

    Imgur

    now enter xml in the search field and hitting next until yous see xml tools, select information technology equally seen in this screenshot and hit install.
    (you will now be prompted for your administrator credentials)

    Imgur

    subsequently the install you will accept the full xml tools menu:

    Imgur

    note: if yous need other plugins as well, you lot will as well have to re-install them using the official "plugins admin"

    if you demand older plugins, that are not available in "plugins admin" nosotros can guide you where to put them manually
    (eg. if you had old plugins before, they volition have to exist moved, as the plugins subfolder structure has changed a bit).

    i hope this helps you.

  • I have been struggling trying to make XML Tools appear for the past two days and have non been successful.
    I accept uninstalled all I had, reinstalled vii.six.3 from scratch but everytime I click to install XML Tools, a windows admin popup window comes up, I select Yes to proceed and then N++ loads up and even so no XML Tools.
    I have followed the instructions to a tee. Anyone else having the aforementioned consequence where XML Tools only stopped working and will not announced subsequently installing it using the Plugins Admin that comes with N++ 7.half dozen.3?

  • @Gabriel-Poulin ,

    Later you exercise the install procedure, and "Due north++ loads up and however no XML Tools": please become to the menu ? > Debug Info > Copy debug info to clipboard and paste in your reply to this topic. As well, what does your %Program Files%\Notepad++\Plugins directory look like? re-create/paste the dir from a cmd.exe window, or embed an screenshot of explorer using the ![](https://url.to/image.png)-syntax for an externally-hosted prototype (such as imgur.com).

    We need this information to exist able to determine whether it'southward that the install didn't happen (right), or whether something else is going wrong.

  • The dubug info:

  • Okay, and then that says that information technology didn't even try to write the XML Tools DLL.

    Next experiment: follow @Meta-Chuh's communication in https://notepad-plus-plus.org/customs/topic/17030/how-to-get-a-plugin-in-notepad-v7-vi/5 (hover-over shows timestamp of 2019-02-01T15:47:10.780Z) – close all instances of Notepad++; download a portable zipfile 7.six.iii 32bit, unzip into a binder on your desktop (or other temporary location); run notepad++.exe from the portable directory, use Plugins > Plugins Admin to install XML Tools in your portable version; check to make sure it installed, and/or give the portable's DebugInfo and portable directory listing for the ...\plugins\ portable directory…

  • @Gabriel-Poulin

    thank you for taking the time to provide us with your debug information, your dir listing, and your screenshots, also as your patience for the concluding 2 days, information technology's much appreciated and welcome to the club of patient people 😉.

    we are looking forwards to read your results, afterwards you've tested a portable version as suggested past @PeterJones.
    direct portable download link to npp.7.6.3.bin.zip

    if you desire to install xmltools manually correct now, until we figured out how we could aid to fix your specific case:

    • please download xmltools manually from here: https://github.com/morbac/xmltools/releases/download/two.4.11.0/Xml.Tools.2.4.eleven.0.x86.Unicode.zip

    • extract Xml.Tools.2.4.11.0.x86.Unicode.aught anywhere to a temporary location

    • create a folder XMLTools inside of C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\plugins\

    • re-create the files XMLTools.dll and change.log as well as the whole folder libs from the extracted Xml.Tools.2.four.11.0.x86.Unicode folder to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\plugins\XMLTools

    • restart notepad++ (only necessary if it was opened while copying the xmltools plugin to it's folder destination)

    if you are interested on some tech info (reading can be skipped freely, every bit it does not comprise any solutions):

    01/31/2019 01:58 PM two,131,968 XMLTools.dll

    this looks very strange and i don't fully empathise it still:

    the xmltools.dll is inside the plugins folder, but exterior of it'south (missing) xmltools sub binder.
    information technology has been "created" yesterday, so it is definitively downloaded either by plugins admin or plugins manager, and not manually, put there as both exercise not preserve the original dll creation fourth dimension (when extracted by gpup.exe or gup.exe), reflecting only the installation date.

    now if it would have been extracted by the new plugins admin, it would have created the libs binder equally well, and that one is as well missing.

    if information technology would accept been installed past the old plugin director, you would find zlib1.dll directly within of C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\ with the aforementioned creation engagement as your XMLTools.dll.

  • I followed the instructions in the other thread where I deleted everything N++ from my the hard drive and registry (in that location was over 100 + in at that place due to all the manual file extension settings I had put in the past seven years).
    I also tried the exam temp location stand alone on a desktop folder, same issue.

    The only way I was able to brand it piece of work was via Manually copying the files in the XMLTools folder I created in Plugins. That worked, thank!

    It could be because I am on a corp latop behind a corp firewall as well?

  • thanks @Gabriel-Poulin for reporting back.
    we're glad to hear that you got it running with a manual install. 👍

    It could be because I am on a corp latop backside a corp firewall besides?

    o.thousand.g… yeah, i am so sorry, this time i completely forgot to enquire if yous are backside a corporate proxy or firewall. 😳 my sincere apologies.

    if you lot are behind a proxy, you tin set it at the notepad++ menu ? > set updater proxy as seen at the screenshot below, as long every bit you know the proxy server address and port.

    notation: usually you tin can observe the proxy settings at the connection settings of your browser.

    Imgur

    enter your visitor's proxy server ip address and port number here equally seen at the next screenshot.
    (note: do non use the example ip and port, they volition not work, except if your company uses the same values by coincidence)

    Imgur

    note: currently notepad++ does not back up proxy authentication (user name and password), and so information technology will non work, if your corporate proxy/firewall needs user credentials.

  • that won't work as my proxy does require login creds.
    I volition leave information technology as information technology is for the manual installation, at least that got me going and I can stop pulling any hairs I may have left :)

    Thanks all for your help

  • Hey guys, can I thread hijack (as I am having the exact aforementioned event, except for me the manual method doesn't work every bit well)?

    I'm besides backside a corporate firewall, except I don't even know what my proxy server IP address is (it's configured via a script).

  • @oryz

    as yous accept Local Conf mode : OFF I would have expected that your plugins
    get loaded from appdata directory instead of the installation directory.
    Your listing, in general, looks skilful to me.

    Uhm, I remember that was the case back in the days of Npp v7.vi …

    @oryz

    The plugin directory is namd XML Tools (note the space character between them) just it should be XMLTools (exactly like the plugin DLL name without the .dll extension).

  • @dinkumoil

    Uhm, I think that was the case back in the days of Npp v7.6 …

    Are yous certain? I'm somehow reluctant to install npp to test.

    The plugin directory is named XML Tools

    looks like information technology is, if nosotros can take the directory list as granted

    Directory of C:\Plan Files (x86)\Notepad++\plugins\XML Tools\libs

  • @Ekopalypse said:

    Are you sure?

    Yes, of course. Local installations of Notepad++ (created by installer) since v7.6.3 store plugins in

    • %ProgramFiles%\Notepad++\plugins\<Plugin proper name> (32 bit OS)
    • %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Notepad++\plugins\<Plugin name> (64 flake Bone, 32 flake Npp)
    • %ProgramFiles%\Notepad++\plugins\<Plugin proper noun> (64 bit Os, 64 chip Npp)

  • @dinkumoil said:

    I think this was information technology! I really ended up resolving the issue by disconnecting from the work VPN (I was at home) and and then the Plugin Admin worked… You are right information technology installed the plugin in :
    %ProgramFiles(x86)%\Notepad++\plugins\XMLTools\ [NO Space] (64 bit OS, 32 bit Npp)

    It would be squeamish if NPP Plugin Admin would notify the user when it fails to connect to the plugin repository.

    Hopefully this would help others trying to install the plugin manually.

    Thank you for the assistance!
